The pre-transplant evaluation of a recipient is done to evaluate if the recipient is suitable to go for kidney transplant. The tests done include:
- Full history and physical examination
- ABO typing (blood group)
- Complete blood count (CBC)
- Chemistry panel (blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, sodium, potassium, bicarbonate, fasting blood glucose, calcium, phosphorus, albumin, total protein, uric acid, liver enzymes, bilirubin, fasting cholesterol, triglycerides)
- HBsAg (Hepatitis B surface antigen), HBsAb (Antibody to HBsAg),
- HCV Ab (Antibody to hepatitis C virus), and CMV (Cytomegalovirus) titres
- HIV, VDRL
- Pelvic exam and Pap smear in females
- Chest x-ray
- Electrocardiogram (ECG)
- Tissue typing (HLA typing) and lymphocyte cross match
- Social and psychiatric evaluation
Note:
In addition to these, recipient may need further testing because of age or other health conditions. |
