(Q1) What is Dialysis? :

(A1) Dialysis is a process that removes waste products and excess fluid that accumulate in the blood as a result of failure of the kidneys to function. Dialysis is not a cure for kidney failure. It only substitutes for some functions of the kidneys like removing some waste products and excess water from the body.

(Q2) How often does one need to be dialysed :

(A2) When the kidneys have ceased functioning permanently they will not resume function no matter how many dialysis treatments are given. The patient with permanently damaged kidneys (ESRD) will therefore need dialysis treatment for the rest of his life unless he has a successful kidney transplant. Dialysis treatment is normally given in the dialysis center three to four times a week. For a patient to get 3-4 times dialysis, he/she has to spend time and money traveling to the dialysis center. The patients who are incapable of traveling on their own will also require a caretaker to accompany them every time.

(Q3) What is Home Dialysis? :

(A3) The dialysis performed at the center can also be performed at home. This will require investing for a dialysis machine and a water treatment plant. One would also need services of a dialysis technician to perform the procedure.

Narmada Kidney Foundation introduces Home hemodialysis service for those who wish to be dialysed at home without making any investment. A special van is made to carry the machine and deliver hemodialysis therapy at your doorstep!

The van is customised to carry a hemodialysis machine, materials and medications needed for dialysis & a portable water treatment plant. The water treatment plant uses the water connections at your home to use water for your dialysis. A dialysis technician will provide you dialysis at the comfort of your home.
