Beginning of New Life
Beginning of New Life!
“I am Rinki Sabnani, from Satna, Madhya Pradesh. At 16, I began experiencing frequent headaches and swelling in my feet. I ignored these symptoms, often continuing to work after taking painkillers. But gradually the swelling of the feet started increasing so much so that even wearing slippers became difficult. When we consulted a doctor in Satna, he suggested us to go to Mumbai and get treatment from a specialist. I moved to Mumbai with my parents.
On examination by the doctors in the hospital, it was revealed that my blood pressure and creatinine have increased beyond limits. The doctors advised me to stay in the hospital for fifteen days. Treatment started under the supervision of doctors. B.P. and the creatinine did come down a bit. However, I had college exams lined up at Satna. We requested the doctor and got early discharge from the hospital and booked train tickets to Satna.
It was a 22-hour journey from Mumbai to Satna. The train was running late by four hours. In the morning near Bhusaval I started having trouble again. Probably my BP had shoot up and I was unable to see anything. My parents got scared. We got down at Bhusaval station and returned to Mumbai in an ambulance. I was again admitted to the hospital in Mumbai. I was in coma for seventeen days. When I regained consciousness, I learned that my kidneys are no longer functioning (end stage kidney disease) and Doctors have put me on Dialysis thrice a week. I had to continue the dialysis sessions for next two years. In the year 2007, my mother decided to donate me a kidney and I got transplanted.
After the transplant, my life took a new turn. On returning to Satna, I completed my studies. I was looking for a job when I met a boy I really liked. We started seeing each other regularly and eventually decided to get married. However, our families did not approve of the relationship because of my kidney transplant. In this case also, the doctor played an important role. He explained my family that after transplant I can lead a normal life, take up worldly responsibilities and even become a mother! Finally, both the families agreed and we got married in the month of June 2015. The same day I got a call letter for the job. Due to transplant, I got posting in adjacent branch only. Two years later, I gave birth to a little angel, ‘Bhavika’! Now she is six years old & studying in first grade. I am happy that she is as smart as all the children in her class. I strongly believe that my kidney transplant was a biggening of my new life!”
